On August 14, 2008, Maggie moved into Pulley Hall of the University of Southern Mississippi. She was so excited about moving on campus her freshman year. When she got to her dorm, she was very disturbed. It was not what Maggie expected. Her room was very small and she had to walk all the way down the hallway to go to the bathroom. She expected to have at least a sink in her room, but she did not have that. This was very different from what Maggie was use to. She was hurt, but had to adjust to the college life of living on her own.
Maggie wanted to get an apartment so bad because of her current living conditions. She felt that she deserved it and could not live like that anymore. Sharing a bathroom with thirty other girls was not fun at all. The water did not get hot, so the showers were not pleasant at all.
Maggie talked with her parents about getting an apartment. They told her that she had to stay in her dorm for a year because of the contract. Maggie started to cry and thought about moving back home. She decided that she did not want to let her family down by not being able to make it on her own. The only choice she had was to stay at USM and complete her freshman year. Maggie’s dad promised to get her an apartment her sophomore year. After her first year experience, she never looked back at USM dorms.

The dorms
University of Southern Mississippi dorms should be renovated to better accommodate students. We should be able to walk into a place that reminds us if home. Somewhere that is calming and feels like a sanctuary. Things should not be old, raggedy, and worn out. We deserve the best of the best to pursue our academic careers.
For print media, I am going to write a letter to the editor explaining the conditions of the dorms and why they need to be updated. This will get the word out to others and let them know how we feel about our rooms. For visual with words, I will design a floor plan that shows more desirable student living. In this floor plan, there will be a sink in every room. There will also be a bathroom between every two rooms. Four girls will share one bathroom. The rooms will also have carpet and curtains in each of them. For informational, I will hold a petition for my dorm. My dorm mates will sign their names to show everyone that our dorms really need work. For structured, I will write a letter to the president to let her know how we feel about the dorms. Literacy
I have learn that many people acquire literacy in many different ways. Weather they have always been brought up on literacy and reading different books in their house hold or they mostly read book all threw out their years of being in school. Either way people read and write literacy every day, some may look the same, but many are different and unique.
As a child I had many experience with literacy. I began as a child when often my big sister would always read to me at night before I would go to bed. I would just love the way she would pretend like she was one of the characters in the book, an we would act out different scene together. Then as I started kindergarten my teacher would always assign us book every day to take home and read with our family. And I loved each and every book, because they were very exiting and interesting, and fun to read with my family. The experience with my family,(reading)made me want to read and read even more. Often my family would read together at least once a week as I was coming up as a child.

The Basketball Games
The University of Southern Mississippi basketball games attendance is very scares during the season. People do not show up at the basketball games like they do the football games. It makes the school and the gym look bad when they show the game on television and no one is there. Our gym is too big to be empty. Everyone that live on campus can fit inside of it.
One way to make people aware of the game is to post more signs around campus to let them know the date and time. By doing this, people can not say that they did not know about the game. Signs are up everywhere around campus. The signs should be in bold letters and on bright paper to draw peoples attention. This should boost attendance by a great bit.
Another thing that can be done is to announce the game date and time over the dorm intercoms. This will let everyone sitting in there rooms, with nothing else to do, know that there is a game going on. Some people do not go out a lot and do not have an ideal of what is going on around campus. You might hear that there is going to be a game in the beginning of the week, but when it comes you forget all about it. Everyone that lives on campus will have excuse as to why they did not show up. Admission is already free for every USM student.
If you let people know that there will be prizes given away during the game, more of them will show up and be willing to show there school spirit. Students are always looking for fun and games to get into. The basketball game will be a good way to entertain the students while they are competing for the prizes. This will also make the game interesting and less boring or dull.
A lot of students complain about the long walk to the gymnasium. They do not want to walk that far just to get to a basketball game. They rather stay in their rooms with their friends and have fun. If USM start giving students rides to the gym from the dorms the seats will surely be filled! The freshman quads are a long way from the gymnasium. The rides will help the students out a lot. It will get them excited to go to the next one. They will feel so relieved that they do not have to walk a mile just to get to a basketball game.
USM should mail out schedules to the alumni to let them know when the games are held and where they are going to be. More alumni will probably attend the game than the students. Some of the students have a lot of work to do and can not fit a basketball game into their schedules. A lot of the alumni would love to come back to there old school and see some basketball. They would be glad to know that their school cares enough about them to send them a basketball schedule. They may even camp out the night before the game.

Desperate Housewives
Desperate Housewives is a highly addictive show about suburban women who live normal lives just like we do. The women on Wisteria Lane are very close friends who have strong relationships that can not be broken. All of the women are married with children, and aspiring careers. The narrator of the show committed suicide on the first episode. Everyone in the neighborhood was shocked.
The show consist four main characters: Susan, Lynette, Bree, and Gabrielle. These characters make the show interesting and captivating. The drama that each family has is exciting. It is so realistic and keeps you wanting more. These women get together weekly to discuss their problems relationship wise, and the hardships of being a mother.
Gabrielle is a successful young women who is married to Carlos. She use to be a model before she met Carlos. He makes all the money, so Gabby does not have to work anymore. She did not want any children, but Carlos disagreed with her. He tampered with her birth control pills to get her pregnant but it did not work. Carlos got into trouble with the law and had to go to jail. He also lost most of his money, which forced Gabby to get a job. She was very disappointed by this. Finally, Carlos got out of jail and returned home. He could not get a job because of his criminal background.
In the new season of Desperate Housewives, Carlos and Gabby have two pretty little girls. Carlos was left blind after the hurricane, which was hard for Gabby to cope with. Now Carlos is a misuse at the local country club. He loves this job and makes just enough money to support his family. Gabby take care of the girls daily while Carlos works. At this time in Carlos’s life he is happy because he has the love of his family. Even though they are not rich, they have each other.
Family is what matters the most. We might think that we do not need them, but they are the ones that are always there for us no matter what. They always show us unconditional love. Every family does not act in this matter. They treat you as if you do not exist.
In one episode of Desperate Housewives, Bree pretended as if she was pregnant. She did this to cover up her teenage daughters’ pregnancy. She did not want everyone in Fairview to know the family’s’ secret. Bree also wanted to keep up her daughters reputation. Bree showed that she really cared about her daughter. She loves her with all of her heart. Most of our parents would not do anything like that for us. We would just have to deal with it. That is a blessing that her mother was there and able to do that for her. This show exhibits how some parents would do anything for their children.
Unlike Bree, Paul was a bad father to his son Zach. He was mourning the death of his wife Mary Alice and forgot all about his son. He was not there for his son emotionally when he needed him. Zach had to do for himself because his mother committed suicide and she was all he had. This was a very hard situation that both of them had to deal with. This tragedy event could have made them come together, but instead it made them fall apart. Paul ran away from home because he wanted to start a new life for himself. He felt so unwanted at home with his father. He had to make a change for the better. His father was left lonely and devastated. He wondered where his son could be, so he started to look for him. Paul could not find his son which left him sadden but he had no choice but to move on with his life.
Desperate Housewives is also a good example of unity. Four women always stick together no matter what. They always have fights among themselves but have the heart to forgive. Their friendship is one of a kind that can last a lifetime. It is amazing how so many women, with so many different attitudes, can have such a unique network.
This show is very fun and entertaining. It something that you will watch with your girlfriends on a Friday night . Desperate Housewives is a very adult and mature show and is not intended for the young people. It has some sexual explicit scenes and foul language. Unlike other shows, this show will have you at the edge of your seat. You will always want to know what is going to happen next. You will make sure you tune in for the next episode.
Each season is different. They always add new characters and more drama to make the show even juicier. That is one thing I like about the show. You never expect the same old thing. You may think know what is going to happen next, but there is always a twist somewhere. You have to be very good at solving mysteries to know what is going to happen next. It is easy for you to forget what is happening because it is so many things happening at one time.
This show is the ultimate women soap opera that will be talked about for years to come. Desperate Housewives should win Emmy’s and other awards for its success. It is recognized all over the nation and deserves the credit.

The fire alarm
Today the fire alarm when off. We had to go outside for about fifteen minutes. I was coming back from lunch when I saw a friend that told me the fire alarm was on. I was mad because I did not have any thime to waste. I wanted to go inside but I could not. I waiting in the back for a while until I could not stand it anymore. It was freezing outside. My hands and face was so cold. Plus I had heels on which made it even worse because my feet was hurting. My friend and I went inside of the building while the alarm was on and waited until it when off. We was so happy that we went inside because it was so much warming in the dorm than it was outside. We stayed at the door because we could not go up to the while the alarm was on. If we did go up we probably would have gotten a documentation put in our file. Most of the time when we have to go outside because of the alarm, nothing goes on. We do not have a fire or anything. That really gets on my nerves having to sit outside in the cold while nothing is going on. Some people do not go outside when the alarm goes off. They just stay in there rooms because they know from past experiences that there is never a fire. Sometimes I wish I could do the same thing. Then again I don't want to stay in my room and get burned up. I would rather stay outside if it is a real fire. They should announce that it is a fire so we can know what to do at times like this.
